# Method:
- Set oven temperature to 375°F and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Boil a large pot of salted water and cook ziti until al dente, approximately 8 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion; cook until softened, 3 to 4 minutes. Add minced garlic and continue cooking for 1 minute.
- Add ground beef and Italian sausage to skillet. Break up meat and cook until fully browned, about 6 to 8 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Incorporate crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, optional red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Simmer uncovered for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning to taste.
- Combine ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan, and chopped parsley in a bowl until evenly blended.
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the prepared baking dish. Layer half of the cooked ziti, half of the ricotta mixture, and half of the remaining meat sauce. Sprinkle with 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Add remaining ziti, ricotta mixture, and meat sauce. Top with remaining mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.
- Cover loosely with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake an additional 15 to 20 minutes until cheese is melted and golden.
- Allow dish to rest for 10 minutes before serving.
